The Final Fronier
Photographs taken during the making of Frontier in Space Episode Six provide a unique record of Doctor Who production in the early 1970s.
In May 1973, Polystyle published the Doctor Who Holiday Special, the first-ever magazine devoted entirely to the series. Among the comic strips, puzzles and pin-ups was an unprecedented spread called The TV World of Dr. Who.
This two-page feature consisted of photos from the production of Frontier in Space Episode Six, which took place on 31 October 1972. It showed both rehearsals for recording and behind-the-scenes activity. Presented like a comic strip, each of the 17 images was annotated with a caption. More of the photos taken that day later appeared in the Valiant Annual 1974 (published by Fleetway in 1973), where they were reproduced in a six-page article entitled A behind-the-scenes look at Doctor Who (see page 19).
