ATLANTIC SALMON
Where to find and swim with autumn’s acrobats, by Susanne Masters

Being rammed by a few kilos of salmon is a bit of a surprise while on a refreshing morning swim after a party night. If Keith had reflexes quick enough to grab it and a fishing licence we would have had salmon for supper. Salmon can be territorial, and are also predators that strike fast at a potential meal. I subsequently found out that the yellow camera float dangling at the back of Keith’s speedos is a size and colour to lure salmon. It is most likely that the salmon mistook the float for competition and didn’t notice the rest of Keith in the tea coloured water of the river Feshie.
