“I find myself alone in the middle of nowhere, early morning in winter when the sun’s coming up and I feel so lucky”
My mum used to run when I was young. I particularly remember being on holiday and having to drop her off somewhere so she could run back to the place we were staying. I think I thought it was a bit weird at the time. Certainly, when she would try and get me to go with her, I wasn’t in the least bit interested and I’d be moaning, “Oh my God, I’m going to die”.
I then tried running about 15 years ago in an attempt to get fit, but it was half-hearted to be honest. It didn’t really stick.
It was after my son was born – he’s 10 now – when I properly decided I needed to get fit. I started doing lots of weights at first and then added running as a complementary activity. It didn’t take long for me to be bitten by the running bug and that became my primary form of exercise.
