EDITOR’S NOTE
APRIL 22 MARKS the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, an event first celebrated in 1970 across the U.S. when 20 million Americans took to the streets protesting against the policies and practices that led to various environmental crises, including rising smog levels and oil spills. Founded by peace activist John McConnell, Earth Day is considered to be the catalyst that launched the modern environmental movement, and its message is more urgent than ever.
