Artists with disabilities can apply for arts grants without fear thanks to changes to the Ontario Disability Support Program

THOUGH THEY were announced quietly by the Ministry of Community and Social Services via social media last December, changes to the Ontario Disability Support Program and Ontario Works will have a profound effect on writers and other artists with disabilities.

As of December 13, 2017, the ODSP and Ontario Works will no longer consider public arts grants (excluding funds designated for living expenses) from funding agencies such as the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts as income – meaning that disabled artists will have new opportunities to access arts grants without losing their disability benefits.
