£210m SIEMENS SWT FLEET DEBUT
The first five Class 707s on order for South West Trains have begun testing at Siemens’ Wildenrath test track in Germany. 707001-005 are the first trains to roll off the production line as part of a £210 million order placed in September 2014 for thirty five-car electric multiple units. All thirty eMUs are being built at Siemens’ manufacturing facility in Krefeld and are due to enter traffic between June and December 2017. Owned by Angel Trains, they will be delivered to SWT’s Wimbledon depot to provide extra capacity on the route between Waterloo and Windsor and eton Riverside. This in turn will enable the cascade of ‘458s’ that currently serve the route to be used for extending SWT services from Reading to Waterloo from eight cars to ten.
