The all-time high of 59.1 million annual journeys has not been seen on the Metro for thirty years
THE number of journeys made on the Tyne & Wear Metro is continuing to recover, reaching 38.1 million last year. A greater figure was last seen in 2010/11, when the total was 39.9 million.
However, the system has some way to go before it challenges the buoyant eighties, when the total was well above 40 million for a number of years and reached an all-time high of 59.1 million in 1985.
