‘SKIPPER’ RETURNS TO TRAFFIC
Newly restored Class 142 No. 142023 has entered service at the Plym Valley Railway painted in its original chocolate and cream ‘Skipper’ livery from 1986. The ex-Northern Rail unit, which is a long way from its former depot of Heaton, arrived at the line in 2021. It underwent some bodywork attention in 2024, and emerged in February this year following its repaint. The DMU was one of 13 of the class to be delivered to the South West in the distinctive colours, and is pictured at Plym Bridge on April 13 sporting a St Ives destination blind –a route familiar to the unit when new.
