Rugby League World Magazine 441 Back Issue

11 Reviews   •  English   •   Sport (Rugby)
Only £4.99
Christmas time, mistletoe and wine, followed by lengthy inquests into why England failed to win the World Cup again. We’re not sure Cliff Richard would have had a festive number one with that so to buck the seasonal trend, here at Rugby League World we’re shoving the stodgy stuff to the side of the plate along with the sprouts for now and breaking open a selection box of fantastic photographs that capture the thrills, spills, colour and fun of the Rugby League World Cup instead.
We hope you’ll enjoy reliving all 28 games of a historic tournament with us in this spectacular souvenir issue.
England may have been pipped to the post by Australia in the final, but it was the closest encounter for many years, and three members of the Wall of White rub shoulders with a selection of Australia’s World Champions, a Fijian and a Tongan in the latest World XIII which we reveal inside. It’s quite a line up!
Richard Silverwood gives his opinion on the World Cup refereeing controversy that saw Matt Cecchin become the centre of an unpleasant social media storm down under and England physio Dave O’Sullivan gives us a behind the scenes insight into how he keeps his troops fit and ready for action in the pressure cooker of a major international tournament.
We also catch up with a former England star of yesteryear Paul Newlove, who looks back on his own appearance in a World Cup final and tells us what he’s up to nowadays.
Can you believe it is fifty years since the first Rugby League games were played on a Sunday. We take them for granted now, but they caused quite a stir in 1967. We look back to those early experimental days when Rugby League once again broke the sporting mould. In contrast, you might think it sounds crackers to play on Christmas Day, but it’s a forgotten tradition that only died out in the 1970s. Find out more inside.
As if that’s not enough, we’ve also lined up two easy to enter competitions for you plus lots more.
