crochet Unravelled With Becky Skuse how do i start a granny square?
Brush up on your technique with our simple guide...
Here at the home of Granny Square Day (15 August if you’re asking!), we love crocheting these classic little shapes. When you’re new to granny squares, getting started can seem a bit daunting, but there are several different ways to start and you might prefer one to another. Using a yarn you’re not used to? If you’re having trouble with your usual technique, you might find another method works better. I’m here to offer you a quick, easy guide to the three most popular methods: the chain stitch loop (or slip knot loop), the chain and slip stitch loop, and the magic loop. No matter which method you use, the idea is the same: you need to create a small loop that will sit at the centre of the square, and this is the loop into which you work the stitches of Round 1.
