So I have to admit to being a bit of a magpie, and just love collecting vintage treasures from local charity shops and markets, whether I’m at home or further afield on a family holiday. If, like me, you’re fond of gathering little keepsakes while you travel, then this project is just for you! This tutorial uses vintage tins and inkjet cotton to make a cocoon of creativity for your precious holiday mementos. It can be adapted to any size because you make your own templates from your chosen tin. It’s a perfect way to display and store holiday memories.

YOU WILL NEED

MATERIALS

• Vintage tin (tobacco sized tin or larger is ideal for storing mementos)

• Scrap paper to make a template

• Sheet of Inkjet cotton, A4

• Bondaweb, large enough to fit your chosen photo

• Neutral cotton or linen base fabric

• Selection of fabric scraps for textile collage

• Neutral machine thread for tacking

• Selection of embroidery threads

• Small piece of trim to edge your chosen photo

• Iron and board

• Pins

• Needle

• Glue, such as Tacky Glue, to fix your project into the tin

• Brush or glue spreader

• Glue stick is a handy, but not necessary addition

EQUIPMENT

• Pencil

• Scissors

• Inkjet printer (most home printers are inkjet)

• Fabric marker, I like to use Frixion pens because they are heat-erasable
