Deciding which colours to use in any one painting takes practice and experience, so here are my suggestions from my own paintings to get you started. First you need to establish a set of colours to work with, so I have listed the colours I use regularly with the basic essentials highlighted (left) in bold – a warm and cool version of the three primaries, pigments with varying degrees of transparency and opacity and some basic earths, plus white and black in oils and acrylics.
