Lachlan Goudie
HMS Queen Elizabeth, gouache on paper, 251⁄2×41in (65×104cm)
As a painter I’ve always been fascinated by shipbuilding. The River Clyde was once the world’s pre-eminent shipbuilding centre, but when I was growing up in 1980’s Glasgow it was a scene of industrial desolation. I was told about the glory days of ‘Clydebuilt’ naval technology, but could only dream about the great liners and warships, sketching them out on paper from my imagination.
