Total FlyFisher  |  December 2011

The December issue of Total FlyFisher is once again packed with up-to-the-minute techniques, flies and tackle.
We have something for everyone, whether you fish still or running water there are fantastic features to suit your passion. The big waters are starting to wind down for the year so the focus for us now is more geared towards small venues and river fishing, with grayling high on the agenda. There’s still bass to be caught and the larger predators can be targeted throughout the winter months.
On the small-water front, Scott Graham explains why only the lightest and sparsely dressed of flies are needed for the top of the water. The clumsy crane fly hangs around a lot longer these days, says Paul Richardson, and his feature shows us the methods and flies requireded to ensure success.
There’s also another Stopwtach Challenge; can our angler catch when the pressure is on?
Graham Pearson and Al Owen join forces to tackle the late-season fry-feeding residents of Rutland Water with explosive results!
There’s also big fish in the form of stripey perch, another great species that can be targeted with the fly.
Editor Steve Cullen reveals the secrets of locating, targeting and catching grayling from small rivers and streams.
We also have tackle, techniques and a whole gamut of fly patterns for you to tie and try!

Could Be Better Reviewed 09 March 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!

Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
