Total FlyFisher  |  June-14

Now that we have some sunshine, the wildlife all around is in full swing and everything is green again, it appears the fishing has kicked off in style!
Our reservoirs are fishing their socks off, at the moment, with lots of good-quality fish coming out to all manner of methods, but it’s the buzzer that’s ruling the roost! Steve Smalley has the three methods that are going to ensure you have lots of success when it comes to targeting the bigger, overwintered and even wild fish! From the top layers to the bottom, he’s got it covered!
If you are looking to get out on a large water then you need a boat, so we have Mike Low on hand to take us through everything you need to know for a safe trip out on the water. Boats give us a great advantage, they allow us to cover far more water, but they can be dangerous so it’s vitally important you know what you’re doing – Mike takes you through the dos and don’t’s!
If you’re a fan of targeting wild brown trout on some of our more remote water then you cannot have failed to notice that a new fly has been doing the damage on many of them. We introduce you to the Hulk, the small lure which is now seen as the ‘must have’ fly for targeting wild brown – Kevin Porteuos reveals all!
On the small-water front, Andy Taylor looks at the leaders that we use and finds out that this little length of line can be the crucial factor when it comes to a good day or a bad one. There are different ones employed for various fishing styles – read on and get it right!
On the river fishing scene we have Industrial Nymphs to Dry Flies, which takes a look at the methods that we need for targeting trout and grayling at this time of year. Kieron Jenkins shows you the intimacies of both these productive techniques. When it comes to the river’s larger resident – well these things like a good mouthful. Glen Pointon hunts out some big specimens from small rivers using outlandishly big streamer patterns, and they bring about some major success!

Could Be Better Reviewed 09 March 2013
The magazine is about the best out there, I like wild fishing and for me there's too heavy a focus on stocked waters and bright bushy flies but they do feature wild waters, natural flies, coarse fish on the fly and the occasional salt water fly fishing spread, I've even seen some tenkara articles.

I really wish the mag would move away from the stockie bashing and feature more wild fishing. Being the best of a bad bunch isn't much to shout about but there you go!

Full of amazing shots, nteresting articles and always manages to teach me something every month with expert fly-tying.
