The village of Franschhoek in South Africa’s Cape Winelands.

Q What would you recommend for a couple with just one week to spare in South Africa? We are looking for variety and romance.

VICKY NEL, African Secrets

I would suggest combining a visit to the Cape Winelands with a safari in Madikwe Game Reserve. You should fly into Cape Town and stay in the area around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. This region offers high-end accommodation on beautiful wine estates, worldclass restaurants, good spas and an array of adventure activities. Then you should fly to Gaborone or Johannesburg and make your way to Madikwe Game Reserve, which offers excellent Big Five safari. Here, you can stay in one of the Jaci’s Lodges’ romantic Starbed Suites.
