Designer Dream

In the hands of an expert, a home in Illinois comes alive with a neutral color scheme and metallic touches.
The great room is all about that orb chandelier. When drawing out the home, designer and homeowner Julie Howard discovered the ceilings would need to be 10 feet high to accommodate the dramatic light fixture. In the first plans, they were only 9 feet, but she bumped them up the needed foot and says, “I’m so happy did!” Now the chandelier hangs in its place of honor and dazzles anyone who steps into the great room.
The hearth room exudes inviting texture in a variety of ways, from the fluffy Mongolian ottomans that sit beneath a rustic side table to the heather basket-weave wool rug that anchors the space. “The room is all about texture and comfort,” Julie says.

Few people are more suited to build and style their dream home than professional designers. As the in-house designer for Timber Trails Development Company located just outside Chicago, Julie Howard designs, builds and stages spec houses. So when the time came for her to create her own home sweet home in the historic district of Barrington, knew exactly what she wanted: a three-story house designed to reflect the area and an open floor plan ideal for modern family life. “It was important that the home looked historic while still accommodating our needs,” Julie says. Its exterior fits into the historical narrative of the neighborhood with leaded beveled windows and crown molding wrapping around the house. Inside, the designs are a study in invigorating elegance with a neutral color scheme and metallic touches.
