The beauty of classic barn structures slips away every year as more barns are torn down for their dilapidated appearance. Here to rescue and restore these beloved structures is John Blackburn AIA, President of Blackburn Architects, P.C. “We design over the country, and I’ve converted quite a few barns,” he says. “Barns have always fascinated me, but it’s surprised me how many other people are interested in restoring them.”
Since 1983, Blackburn Architects, P.C. has been designing topquality horse stables and barn homes, often restoring existing structures in the process. This particular barn home used to be an old Christmas tree farm in Ohio. Built in the early 1800s, its timbers were rotting, and it was deteriorating. Rather than tear it down, the client wanted to convert it into a family compound.
