We’ve all been there before. Needing a certain tool to perform a quick task but coming up short. Maybe you could’ve used a flathead screwdriver to cinch down a loose screw or a pair of pliers to help tighten a loose widget you just happened to come across.
Because you never know what life will throw at you, it’s hard to anticipate just which tools you’ll need on a daily basis. It’s not like you can carry a hardware store around, could you?
Choosing which tools one carries on a daily basis is a major decision that people, especially those in tune with the EDC lifestyle, have to make. The type of tools that one chooses is dependent on many factors including one’s line of work, lifestyle, daily requirements and the available carry space, just to name a few.
This is where multi-tools come in. As we understand it, multi-tools essentially came into being when a fellow named Timothy S. Leatherman added pliers to a Swiss Army knife. The evolution of the multi-tool is more complicated than that, but you get the picture. Modern multi-tools have come a long way since then and we are all beneficiaries of the innovation in the field. Let’s take a look at some of the latest multi-tools, as well as some proven favorites. Perhaps you can’t bring a full-size hardware store around everywhere you go, but at least you can have a pocket-sized tool chest.
