FIRSTS of Virginia Woolf’s books that she had inscribed for Peggy Belsher, secretary and head clerk at the Hogarth Press from 1928-36, were sold at Bonhams on June 15.
The 1930, first English edition of A Room of One’s Own shown right made £6000, as did a 1937 first of The Years, but bid to £10,000 was a copy of The Waves of 1931 inscribed with a slightly more personal message, “P. Belcher, With thanks for all she has done, from Virginia Woolf”.
