This leaf from a xylographic or blockbook Biblia Pauperum, representing the Transfiguration, right, sold for £24,000 at Christie’s on December 1.
The leaves of such books were printed on one side only in grey, water-based ink by rubbing the sheet against an inked block and then colouring them by hand.
