The Wilton House Car Boot in action.
1 The country house car boot season, mostly held to raise funds for charities, is dominated by the mammoth annual fixture held in the grounds of Wilton House, near Salisbury, the seat of the Earls of Pembroke.
Held for 35 years, this year’s event on Monday, August 28 will host around 1000 car boots and some 5500 visitors, from which the organisers expect to raise in excess of £15,000 for the local Rotary Club. The Wilton House Car Boot runs for five hours, from 9am-2pm – as that’s 200 boots an hour to be trawled through, the bacon sarnie may have to be eaten on the hoof.
