A rare 1939 first of At Swim Two Birds sold by Fonsie Mealy for €6200 (£5390).
Promoted in a catalogue issued by Fonsie Mealy (20/25% buyer’s premium) for its May 20 sale as something “for the collector who has (almost) everything”, an autograph section from James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake was sold at €27,000 (£23,480).
Described as “evidently a fair copy”, signed and dated “Paris 6.iv.1930”, it contained the opening of the ‘Anna Livia Plurabelle’ section beginning “Well; you know or don’t you kennert…”.
