Possibly made for a member of the French monarchy, this post-medieval gold ring combines the heraldic fleur-de-lis motif with blue kite-shaped sapphires.
Both the symbol and colour were closely associated with French monarchy from the medieval period onwards. The gold in the ring has been tested to c.16th century.
