A Victorian vanity case still containing personal items belonging to its original owner will feature in Chiswick Auctions’ Silver & Objects of Vertu sale in London on October 31.
Made by Betjemann & Sons in 1874, the sterling silver and ivory fitted coromandel travelling case was owned by Clara Gardiner Muir (d.1952) of Postlip Hall, Cheltenham. Possibly a gift from her mother, the assortment of needlework and grooming items are all inscribed with the motto, crest and coat of arms of the Muir family.
