Theodor Geisel, writer, cartoonist and artist, is better known as Dr Seuss, the author of a host of children’s books. These are now famous the world over for the magical way in which they used a repetitive vocabulary and striking images to aid reading and render it an enjoyable experience.
On December 14 in Swann Auction Galleries’ Illustration Art sale, the New York firm will be offering a front endpaper from the title page of his ABC (published by Random House in 1963), which has been personalised with an inscription and an original signed pen and ink and wash drawing of a llama-like beast titled A Great Gallumphing Galoot!
