This 23in x 2ft 7in (59 x 80cm) oil on canvas below is attributed to Blanche Hoschedé-Monet (1865-1947), the step-daughter and daughter-in-law of Claude Monet.
It was consigned to London Auctions (22% buyer’s premium) on February 12 along with other contents from the Mayfair apartment of the late Lady Wanda Boothby, wife of Conservative peer Lord Robert Boothby (1900-86).
The label to the back of the canvas stated the view was from Monet’s famous garden in Giverny and was acquired by Boothby from New Bond Street gallery GM Lotinga in 1965. Interest from both private and trade buyers ensured it bettered its £8000-12,000 guide to sell for £26,000 to a private buyer bidding in the room.
