ARGYLL South Pony Club’s annual camp had all the ingredients for a perfect event – great venue, fantastic catering, excellent coaches and enthusiastic riders. All it needed was the Argyll weather to play along, which it did.
Taking place over three days last week, the riders were divided into three different teaching groups – Eriskay, Shetland, Highland – and received instruction on their riding skills in dressage, show jumping and games. All aspects of stable management and horse care were covered with a full set of dissected hoof bones causing much interest.
This year’s coaches were Jill Dradge from Renfrewshire, Nigel Springer from Carlisle and Argyll South’s chief instructor, Sheila MacCallum. The tuition covered all aspects of equestrianism and the quiet Poltalloch roads allowed for some very important practical lessons on road safety with real traffic. Thank you to all local drivers who were very accommodating. On the Friday two very young riders from Campbeltown joined camp for the day and pony club tests at E and D plus level were successfully completed.
