PEOPLE in Argyll have been urged to avoid using paper lanterns, as bonfire night approaches.
Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park and the National Farmers’ Union Scotland ask people to avoid using sky lanterns, sometimes known as Chinese lanterns, as they are a fire risk.
The lanterns, which are constructed from paper with a wire or wooden frame and contain a lit candle, can also be a danger to wildlife, forests and livestock. If the lantern frame is ingested, animals face serious harm or even death.
