AN ELDERLY woman in Lochgilphead has fallen victim to a telephone scam.
The woman received a telephone call at home from a man pretending to be from BT on Tuesday December 13. The man convinced the woman she had internet and computer faults and duped her into giving her bank details to pay for him to fix the issues. The woman later discovered a substantial sum of money had been removed from her bank account.
Sergeant Iain MacNicol, of Lochgilphead police station, said: ‘These types of scams are all too common but the bottom line is for people not to trust unexpected callers and not to be duped into giving out any bank details or letting anyone on the phone persuade you to give them access to your computer.
