Villagers united in fight to stop Machrie slipway

Residents are set to dig in their heels for a long fight over the proposed timber slipway at Machrie.

At a drop-in meeting held last week by the Forestry Commission Scotland local people made it clear they were still vehemently opposed to the plans.

They would see a new £250,000 slipway built just north of Machrie to ship the trees to be felled on the west coast to the mainland.

A further £50,000 would also be spent on a timber transfer station on the other side of the road.
