In July five young people left the island to take part in two gold Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Getting as far as their gold expedition is no easy task with much having been achieved already. However, the gold expeditions - practise and assessed - are what it all leads up to. So many skills are required in people so young.
Tom Mowatt, Rory McKenna, Kirsty Kerr and George and Max Doubleday made up the Arran Team Gold. Their practise expedition involved them paddling in their kayaks from Ardrossan across to Bute and onto Kintyre. Their assessed expedition was all about the Great Glen as the paddle took them from Fort William to Inverness.
