The Arran Belles received a visit from a famous paralympian last week. Mel Nicholls, 39, is a British wheelchair athlete specialising in middle distance events. She is a three times world record holder for the 1500m and won the British Cycling National Para Time Trial Championships in 2014.

The paralympian brought her cycling skills to Arran last Friday as she trains for the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in September. She calls the island her ‘second home,’ and met up with the Arran Belles cycling club in Lamlash after a day of training round the north of the island.
