Opposition mounts to new turbine plans for Holy Isle

Retreat chiefs on the Holy Isle are trying to use a planning application from nearly 20 years ago to push through revised wind turbine plans.

The Rokpa Trust, which owns the Buddhist retreat, has resubmitted controversial plans to build 20m wind turbines on the island, although they have cut the number from six to five.

As previously reported in The Banner, earlier plans were withdrawn in April after dozens of objections, but revised plans have now been submitted to North Ayrshire Council planning officials.
