Gilbert Norris.
The man believed to be the oldest resident on Arran has died. Gilbert Norris, a D-Day veteran and recipient of the Légion d’Honneur, passed away peacefully at Cooriedoon Nursing Home on Thursday August 16, aged 102.
Gilbert who was born on May 29, 1916, was part of the D-Day landings during the war where, as an engineer, he played a valuable role in building and repairing bridges in France.
