Sir,
Why does the new Brodick pier have to be so ugly? Could there not have been some architectural design incorporated into the framework to make it more aesthetically appealing?
It never looked good from the outset but there was always the feeling that when it was complete the final outcome would be revealed to have been worth waiting for. If this is the final outcome, it is a big disappointment. All of the old piers around the island had attractive features about them that drew you to them for all sorts of reasons. This pier lacks all of the charm that these piers generated. Does progress demand such lack of sensitivity? If you tried to build a house as ugly as this you would never get planning permission.
