At their April meeting 40 Antiquarians welcomed Dr Glenda White as their guest speaker, writes Norma Davidson.
She told us it would be a teacher’s story and it certainly appealed to the considerable number of retired teachers in the hall. Indeed Colin Mackenzie, acting chairman for the day, remembers first meeting Glenda when he was a very young teacher.
She lectured at Jordanhill College and then became one of the feared Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Educational Standards. This body accumulated some very unkind nicknames. After retiring, Glenda continued advising on how to gain favourable assessments. This Glasgow educationalist was very proud to tell the audience that the city had the first teacher training college in Britain.
