Rimmer finished third at the Olympic trials in Birmingham meaning he is now reliant on a discretionary pick from performance director Neil Black to go to Rio, but he returned to good form four days later clocking 1:44.93 – his fastest time since 2012 – having had a pain-killing injection in his back just two days before.
