FIELD RULES ARE ATHLETE AND FAN UNFRIENDLY
I AM writing about the new rules on limiting three extra attempts in the throws and horizontal jumps to only those placed in the top four positions after three rounds.
By eliminating more throwers and jumpers earlier within competitions, fans are not seeing more competitive, exciting events, as the new rules may have been sold to us under the developing “new era of athletics”. Instead not only are we seeing fewer throws and jumps and less field event athletics but lower quality athletics in later rounds due to athletes being asked to jump or throw after just a couple of minutes’ rest.
