Champions (l to r): Louise Webb, Katie Allen, Georgina Outten, Chloe Richardson
BIRCHFIELD HARRIERS retained their Midland women’s four-stage title with ease, while Bristol & West clinched a closer men’s race at Sutton Park.
Georgina Outten took the Stags into the lead on leg three and they held that with Chloe Richardson on anchor after Louise Webb and Katie Allen had led them off.
Birchfield clocked 49:48 for the 4x4.33km race, crossing the line 76 seconds ahead of runners-up Charnwood.
Outten’s time of 14:36 was the second fastest of the race – 12 seconds slower than Royal Sutton Coldfield Olympian Laura Whittle.
All of Birchfield’s quartet were among the 10 fastest overall, while Nicole Roberts (14:42) on their B team was fourth quickest overall, helping them to bronze medals with 63:52.

Roberts was just two seconds ahead of her teammate Webb on the first leg as Charnwood’s Gemma Hillier-Moses came in third with 14:48.
However, Charnwood’s Hannah Nuttall then took over. The World Cross representative, daughter of internationals
John Nuttall and Alison Wyeth, posted the third quickest time of the race, 14:41, to put her team 46 seconds in front of Birchfield A, for whom Allen ran 15:31.

Laura Whittle: Royal Sutton Coldfield’s Olympian produced the fastest stage
Outten, who has concentrated on 800m this year, running a PB of 2:04.34, posted a crucial third leg, moving her team 2:26 clear of Charnwood’s Elsie Butler (16:16). Further back, Whittle, who ran 15:31.30 in the heats of the 5000m in Rio, moved RSC from thirteenth to fourth.
