MARTYN, 40, MEDIA SERVICES MANAGER
MY HOBBY AT university was ballroom dancing, and it was at a competition where my parents first met Malcolm. They liked him straight away! It was only when I introduced them that he finally revealed his real age to me. We have had open relationships in the past; it started off pulling guys for threesomes and we were okay with that. We saw it as just another body in the bed rather than the relationship. When I lost the visa to move to San Francisco, I moved back to the UK to live with my parents. Although it was very tough, it didn’t change our relationship. Eventually, Malcolm got transferred to Canada, where we were finally recognised as a couple, and in 2011 we moved back to the UK. I’m glad we’ve managed to stay in one place for a while now. It was exhausting trying to find a new apartment and a new job. We’ve got married three times. Even though it wasn’t legally binding, we had one of those commitment ceremonies in Las Vegas with an Elvis impersonator. Once we moved back to the UK we had a civil union and this year, to celebrate our twentieth anniversary, we converted the civil union to a full marriage. Going through all those tough times has definitely made us stronger.
