A few weeks ago I spent the morning at BBC Broadcasting House, speaking to local radio stat ions about the anniversary. Berkshire, Teesside, Kent — in inter view after inter view I found myself having to explain to straight broadcasters why, now that we have equal rights in (most of) the UK, we still need Pride events.
I listened as a radio presenter in Bristol asked why homophobes aren’t entitled to their opinion; if I was allowed it say it was OK to be gay why aren’t they allowed to express the opposite? I listened to a man called Roy from South end who called in to say he thought gay people were an abomination.
