The government likes to believe we live in a classless society.
Millions of people would argue otherwise. According to Theresa May, post-recession austerity is officially over. For the wealthy, it was never a thing. We are assured that the UK has a bright future, despite nobody in power having a clue what lies in store beyond the Brexit deadline in March 2019. Maybe for many of us things aren’t so bad, and even if life gets a bit tough, we’ll weather the storm as we did 10 years ago. Most of us can afford our rent, pay the bills, splash out on a holiday or two a year and have the occasional splurge on the high street. We can hit the Black Friday sales, put it on a credit card and worry about it next month.
