Truly Madly Deeply

In the autumn of 2013, when same-sex marriages were soon to be taking place in the UK, I approached our friend Kate Baxter, whose jewellery blog The Cut has a service that introduces clients to exciting jewellery designers. I knew I wanted to be the one to propose, but designing an engagement ring for a boy like Jamie would require expertise and imagination. Proposing to Jamie was the best decision I’ve ever made, as marriage has in fact brought us even closer together. When Jamie was offered a job in L.A. in 2014 we weren’t engaged yet, but the ring was already on its way. So, I didn’t hesitate when he asked me if I would consider the move. As much as I’ve loved London, Jamie is everything I need, and I tinker to fit the other parts of my life around that essential point. Since moving away, we’ve looked to each other for friendship more than ever and it’s been a blessing. Jamie is a perfect husband because he inspires me to do things I would never do on my own, whether that’s a spontaneous trip, or just writing Christmas cards to my family for the first time. He is very much a boy with a beautiful soul and together we have great fun.

About Attitude

The new issue of Attitude features Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy on the cover, with an exclusive interview in which he discusses life since coming out. Inside we have a Valentine’s special where we look at the broad spectrum of gay relationships, plus columns and advice on dating as transgender, HIV positive, masc, femme, and everything in between. There are also interviews with British actor Douglas Booth and Australian singer songwriter Josef Salvat. Our writer Matt Cain goes home to Bolton for the city’s first Pride, and we chat to our new columnist Juno Dawson about her transition. We also have a feature on the forgotten gay language, polari.
