Gus Kenworthy made headlines when he came out as gay in October 2015. As a world champion in the action sports field it was a major statement, with the news reported across the world. It seemed only right that a British-born Olympian would choose Attitude for his first gay press interview.

“My family moved to Colorado from London when I was three,” he tells me of his UK roots.

The move set him on the path to conquering Denver’s world famous slopes. “The town functions around a ski resort, and I just fell in love with skiing because it was a family outing for us. We all had to learn together. And when I was older, it was what my friends and brothers were doing so I wanted to do what they were doing.”

About Attitude

The new issue of Attitude features Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy on the cover, with an exclusive interview in which he discusses life since coming out. Inside we have a Valentine’s special where we look at the broad spectrum of gay relationships, plus columns and advice on dating as transgender, HIV positive, masc, femme, and everything in between. There are also interviews with British actor Douglas Booth and Australian singer songwriter Josef Salvat. Our writer Matt Cain goes home to Bolton for the city’s first Pride, and we chat to our new columnist Juno Dawson about her transition. We also have a feature on the forgotten gay language, polari.
