Wearing a superhero cosplay outfit made from black neoprene when it was 30C outside may not have been a great idea, but a child’s smile made it all worthwhile and melted my heart.

At last year’s Pride in London, I marched with LGBT HERO, the Health Equality and Rfights Organisation, and decided to dress as Thor for the occasion. But, I wasn’t just Thor. I was a cute queer Thor, with a rainbow cape and rainbow ribbons attached to my mjolnir.

Suddenly, I heard someone shout: “Thor!” I turned and saw a young couple and their small son, laughing. “He loves Thor,” his mum said as I went over to them. I smiled at him and didn’t really know what to do, so I gave him a little ist bump before I was swept back up into the parade.
