SEEING RED OVER NEW ROAD TAX
I’ve just about assimilated the motoring news from the Autumn Budget and have to admire the chancellor’s disingenuous comment hinting that VED is spent on roads as a justification for yet another tax on motoring.
As a plug-in hybrid driver, I’m not exactly delighted to find that my meagre ‘old’ pension is to be stretched even more by being obliged to pay eVED on my mileage. It appears that I shall also be paying VAT and fuel duty on the petrol I use – so this is effectively double taxation. To add insult to injury, eVED will apply to all of my mileage, even if I drive my car on a track, on private property or abroad.
