Bass Player UK  |  Aug-16

Being known as the best in your field isn’t always fun (unless, ahem, you’re Bass Guitar Magazine of course, this country’s only print publication devoted to bass). Just ask Victor Wooten. A master of every single aspect of bass playing and its associated philosophies, the mighty Woot has elevated the art form to a level of world-class sophistication. But he’s not trying to be the best, or the fastest, or the most technical bassist on the planet: as he tells us in this special extended interview, he’s just trying to serve the music. This and many other lessons make this issue one to treasure, with added value from our interviews with Duff McKagan (he of the biggest rock band in the world, Guns N’ Roses, lest we forget); Bruce Foxton, sometime of the Jam; Bryan Ferry bassist Jimmy Sims; Periphery’s Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood; and a host of other bass players from the soul, funk and metal worlds.
The fun doesn’t stop there, with our state-of-the-art reviews section encompassing wallet-threatening bass gear from Mayones and affordable products from Ibanez, Orange and elsewhere. We say hello to Italian newcomers GRBass and check in with the FX makers du jour Darkglass, too. As for our tutors? There’s no better range of experts in the bass world, with a graded set of columns for beginner, intermediate and advanced bassists of the electric and upright persuasion.
What does all this add up to? Simply the most fulfilling bass experience you can get for under a fiver. Dive in, and see you in August!

Always a good read

Really entertaining view of guitar Reviewed Thursday, July 11, 2019

Preferred the old reader

Although the new version has a few extra goodies like a side menu with all articles and a nicer layout, the zoom isn't as good as the old reader. With my phone horizontal the maximum zoom still has tiny lettering. It would be no good to someone who is short sighted. Reviewed Saturday, November 24, 2012
