Bass Player UK  |  Show Special 2016
In the four years that I’ve been editing this hallowed magazine, the London Bass Guitar Show has gone from strength to strength: last year’s event, held as per tradition at Olympia London in March (it’s 12 and 13 March this year, friends) was the biggest and best yet. So how can we top it this year? Well, it’s simple: we book the biggest names in bass, we bring you the cream of the crop when it comes to gear manufacturers, we all get together for a weekend – and we watch history unfold...
Hence this annual special issue devoted to the LBGS, which this time out features Robert Trujillo of Metallica; Peter Hook, once of Joy Division and New Order; Queen’s touring bassist Neil Fairclough; Jools Holland stalwart Dave Swift; the immensely talented Michael Manring; Rhino Edwards of the 100-million-albums-selling Status Quo; Freekbass, interviewed in this issue; and the queen of rock, Suzi Quatro. Do I need to add anything else? Read our preview features, and see you there!
Elsewhere in this issue we say hello to the bass players from the Attractions and Tesseract, and we say a sad farewell to the mighty Lemmy. We review amazing bass gear from the affordable to the wallet-threatening, we offer you a world-beating range of tuition for bassists of all levels – and we represent our low-frequency community unlike any other publication, although I say that myself.
I’m looking forward to meeting you at Olympia. Let’s do this!
