This past year I’ve been exploring in this column what it means to live yoga, rather than just doing the exercises. In fact, yoga has completely changed the way that I see the world, it’s that simple. It’s funny that ‘yoga philosophy’ is seen as something so different to ‘going to do yoga’.
I’ve found that when mindful movement is combined with taking deep, conscious breaths, many things move – which is really what my exploration into the physical side of yoga and Movement for Modern Life is all about. The change that occurs, both within and outside of ourselves, when we transition mindfully through life.
For me, things really have changed with my long-running love of yoga. I now look to live a much more sustainable life and a much more sustainable practice, too. I do still get on the mat daily, but in the past, I’d have an agenda – I’d be ready for my next ‘accomplishment’, I’d be looking for goals. I’d be working on the trickier, feistier poses.
